Advancing Digital Health Equity in the UK: A Personal Milestone

Wolverhampton, UK – April 2026

I was honoured to receive the Advances in Digital Healthcare Award at the Medilink Midlands Business Awards 2026, recognising the work we are doing through CheckUp Health to improve access to healthcare across the UK.

While this moment represents an important milestone, it is, more importantly, a reflection of a much deeper and ongoing commitment: ensuring that healthcare is accessible, equitable, and effective for everyone.

Why This Matters to Me

My journey into healthcare innovation is deeply personal.

In 2004, I lost two close family members within a week—both from undiagnosed diabetes. They were known hypertensive patients, yet opportunities for early diagnosis were missed.

That experience raised questions that have stayed with me ever since:

  • Why are there still gaps in access to care?
  • Why do people continue to fall through the cracks?

Those questions became the foundation of my work.

From Personal Experience to Innovation

What started as loss has evolved into purpose.

Today, through CheckUp Health, we are building an AI-powered, multilingual digital GP platform designed to:

  • Improve access to primary care
  • Support underserved and diverse communities
  • Reduce pressure on healthcare systems
  • Enable clinicians with better tools and real-time data

This work is not just about technology—it is about solving real problems that affect real people.

Addressing Health Inequalities

Health inequality remains one of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today.

Many communities continue to face barriers such as:

  • Limited access to GP services
  • Language challenges
  • Delayed diagnosis and treatment

Through digital innovation, we have an opportunity to change this.

By combining artificial intelligence, interoperability, and patient-centred design, we are working towards a system where access to care is not determined by background, location, or circumstance.

A Moment of Recognition

Receiving the Advances in Digital Healthcare Award is a meaningful moment.

It reflects:

  • The dedication of our team
  • The strength of our partnerships
  • The growing importance of digital health solutions

It also reinforces that the work we are doing is needed—and that it is making a difference.

Looking Ahead

This award is not the destination—it is a step forward.

Our focus remains on:

  • Scaling solutions across GP practices and healthcare systems
  • Strengthening collaboration with NHS organisations and partners
  • Continuing to innovate in ways that improve patient outcomes

There is still much to do, and we are just getting started.

Final Reflection

Awards create visibility, but they also carry responsibility.

For me, the most important question is always this:

Are we improving lives?
Are we increasing access?
Are we making healthcare more equitable?

If the answer is yes, then we are moving in the right direction.
